Idith Levy's
bold oil paintings range
from expressive
representation to
abstractions, distinguished
for their compelling
compositions and striking
palettes. Richly textured
color fields and vigorous
strokes of ponderous grays
and greens, fierce scarlet,
resplendent gold and cool
whites lie in thick layers
across the surfaces of
Idith's canvases. The
imagery in these works
incorporates fragmented
scenery or minimalist
observations of nature, as
well as the silhouetted
forms of figures and
unknowable visions. The
variety of subject matter in
Idith's work is united by
her distinctive attention to
the materiality of the paint
itself-the powerful
brushstrokes, the vehement
palette knife application of
medium. Idith Levy was born
in Tel Aviv, Israel, where
she studied history of art,
literature, photography, and
curatorship. She worked for
many years in an art museum
as director of education and
guidance. Her art was
featured in several
exhibitions in Israel. Idith
now lives and works in
Orlando, Florida. |
